Frequently asked questions about OBD2 scanners
Which OBD2 scanner works with an iPhone?
On iPhone, WiFi scanners work, and so do Bluetooth LE (BLE) scanners. Older classic Bluetooth ELM327 clones do not work on iOS because of Apple's restrictions. The most universal and trouble-free choice is a WiFi model — for example the Kingbolen or the ELM327 WiFi V1.5, or the Bluetooth 5.1 ELM327 with double PCB.
Does an OBD2 scanner work on every car?
It works on most vehicles built after 1996. Specific functions can differ by model. If you are unsure, message us and we will tell you exactly.
Do I need internet to use the scanner?
No. You only need internet to download the app. Diagnostics work completely offline.
Can I clear the Check Engine code?
Yes — all of our scanners read and clear codes. If the problem is fixed, the code will not return. If the problem remains, the code will appear again.
Which app works with an OBD2 scanner?
Apps such as Car Scanner, Torque and OBD Auto Doctor work with OBD2 scanners. On Android, Torque and Car Scanner are the most popular; on iPhone, Car Scanner is mainly used.
What is the difference between a WiFi and a Bluetooth OBD2 scanner?
WiFi scanners work on both iPhone and Android and are considered the most universal option. Bluetooth scanners work on Android, and on iPhone only if they are the BLE (Low Energy) type. WiFi is usually more stable, while Bluetooth is often cheaper and simpler for Android devices.
